Pilgrimage to SHOT Show

The (Almost) Forgotten Discovery

I keep a Mag-Lite in my car for a couple of reasons.  First, I might need a flashlight.  Second, it could be used to knock a dirtbag in the head.  I found a nifty accessory for my Mag-Lite at SHOT Show.  It's called Bust A Cap.  It's a tactical glass breaking piece that replaces the existing end cap of the Mag-Lite.  It turns the flashlight into a "break-in-case-of-emergency" device.  You never know when you might need one.

Crimson Trace Rocks!

We all know how much I love, love, love Crimson Trace Laser Grips.  The products are great, but I especially love the marketing slogan.  The laser grips for my Kel-Tec PF9 are on back order (thanks a lot, Santa).  Now they are coming out with super-nifty new laser grips for my Glock.  It has an on/off switch!  And, it will still fit in my holster. I have a hunch John will want a couple of sets, too. One for his Glock 17 and one for his 19.  Just like a typical girl, I am all about the accessories.

Eureka!

Post SHOT Show update:  I've been home for a week.  I've purged the mail.  Finally unpacked.  And I'm just now going through all the nifty stuff I gathered, bought, or acquired at SHOT Show.  I am ashamed it took me a week to get my act together.

My first priority at SHOT Show was to find girly CCW accessories.  I did.  Hooray!  I found my weekend carry "holster."  It's a Galco Wisteria handbag.  I love the shape (I think it's Gucci inspired). And there is plenty of room for everything else I need to pack around on the weekends.  Look for pics of me sporting my fun, new bag soon. I would srike a pose now, but I am all comfy in my PJs and slippers.

John had a great idea... practice!  He thought it would be a good idea to put my Kel-Tec in it (empty of course) and draw to make sure I am comfortable doing so.  I think here may be video to come.  The Pretty Pistolera Channel on YouTube hasn't seen anything new in a long time.

John went to SHOT Show and came home with a list of guns, holsters, and Crimson Trace Laser Grips to buy.  I found a handbag.  I think this is the epitome of the whole "Venus vs. Mars" thing.

Stay tuned for more SHOT Show updates this week.

We're Back

We are home from SHOT Show.  I was on a 7:00 AM flight this morning after three full days in Orlando (five days for John).  I spent a lot of time at the convention center looking for blog-worthy gunny stuff.  I found some fun things to talk about... stay tuned this week for a full recap.

In addition to my gunny goodness search, I had a few personal things on my to do list:

  1. Find CCW-friendly handbag for weekend use.
  2. Meet Irlene Mandrell.  John mentioned she made an appearance at last year's SHOT Show.  (I heart her, remember?  See bullet point labeled "curiosity.")
  3. Get a little rest and relaxation at warm, sunny hotel in Florida.

The personal to do list report card is as follows:

  1. New handbag:  Bingo!  This one was easy to accomplish.
  2. Irlene:  Missed her at the SHOT Show which was a major disappointment.  However, after John and I made it through security this morning we popped a squat at the communal shoe-tying-bench... and guess who was right in front of us?  Irlene!  And Louise!  I was not coherent at 6 AM when I met her, but I promise I was absolutely ecstatic.
  3. R&R:  Didn't happen. The weather was too cold to catch a ray of sunshine.  And, even if the weather was fabulous, we stayed at The Sucksalot Inn* where R&R stands for repulsive and so not relaxing.  You really, really, really do not want to know the details.

*Please note the name of the hotel was changed to protect the bum they allow to sleep in the lobby. We encountered him at 5 AM this morning as we were checking out.

The Difference Between Tactical and Tacky

Almost There...

It is almost my bedtime and I still haven't packed for SHOT Show.  John is already in Orlando.  He said the hotel room "needs a little Febreeze."  Uh-oh.

It just hit me that I am truly clueless about what I am about to encounter this weekend (on so many levels).

Stay tuned...

SHOT Show... The To Do List

John is so excited about SHOT Show.  He is planning his days (and his evenings).  He's packed extra luggage to bring home his finds and purchases.  He has a list of "priority booths" to visit first.  He has a list of booths we have to go together on Saturday so he can introduce me.  And he is pestering me about my game-plan.  Yeah, I don't have one.  Should I?  I've been to plenty of trade shows and markets over the years so I am not fretting.  I always manage to get my bearings rather quickly and then pound the pavement and plug away.  I hope I'm not wrong.

Oh, wait, I do have something on my to do list... find a vendor that has cute CCW accessories for women, and find a place that has makes IDPA vests to fit girls.  And, find the closest Starbucks (I hope there is one in the convention center).

Ready! (Finally)

We are finally set for SHOT Show.  I know booking air travel a week before the departure date is not a good idea.  Well, I did it anyway.  I knew I was going to use Southwest Rapid Rewards for both of our tickets, so I thought I didn't really need to be at the top of my game.  Southwest is supposed to be the anti-airline airline without most of the crazy rules and nuts policies.  It's been a while since I've dealt with Southwest... I learned the hard way that they have now adopted many of the rules the other major airlines have.  Argh!   Long story short...I booked my ticket, no problem.  I immediately tried to book John's ticket.  No more "Rapid Reward" seats on the flight home.  Technically John was going to be stranded in Orlando, until we paid full fare for his return flight home.  Our 1.5 free flights just don't seem like a "reward" now.

SHOT Show

I am seriously three weeks late in registering for the SHOT Show.  Oops.  I've never been to Orlando, and have never had a desire to go.  Not even as a kid.  The Disney thing is just not appealing to me.  However, throw some gunny goodness in a convention hall and I am all about the pilgrimage to big-fat-rodent-tourist-trap-land.

By the way, it was 65 degrees here today. Rainy and gray, but still 65 degrees.  If this is global warming, bring it on.
